Subtraction of thousands game | monkey race game
Basic addition and subtraction are taken to the next level when students use the talents of place value and moving from the thousands place to the hundreds place and from the hundreds place to the tens place when regrouping.
Also students move to regroup from the tens to the units. During this game, players are given several standard algorithm problems to unravel, all with a 2-minute deadline. Then students are ready to use scratchpad so as to seek out the right answer. Students are also given a mixture of problems with addition and subtraction and they must make use of the order of operation to unravel those problems correctly.
This game covers a multi-level of critical thinking skills to challenge and intrigue 4th-grade students in math. Students will want to assist a colorful monkey on an island to obtain bananas or coconuts by answering questions correctly. If questions are answered incorrectly the monkey will obtain a shoe. As students’ progress they're awarded stars for positive scores. Three stars may be a top score.
